2018:02 New Leaf
My last post waaay back in March had me full steam ahead on a new venture. But then…life happened! At work they merged our branch into Sacramento branch, managing to save 25 jobs and layoff only two. I was given more responsibility and was pretty busy for awhile. There was great hope that it would all go somewhere awesome. Then the layoff grew by three more people. My little dept. was supposed to have an update meeting on May 16th, but on May 15th the layoff grew by one more person when Fedex dropped an envelope from corporate at my door. In it was a paper form with a little box checked, “lay off”. A couple of hours later I received the call. She was sufficiently appalled that I already had gotten my papers. I felt kind of obnoxiously happy about the fact that I knew before she called.
It was very disappointing to find out that the company was/is as cheap as I suspected them to be in that even after 5.5 years, no severance package. Guess you would have to be an executive to get that. Really, it was no surprise though. When they merged our branches, the other branch already had someone doing my same job. She is younger, has done it longer and has been the pet of the head of the program so pretty much if it was going to come down to cutting someone, it was my neck on the block first. It was not disappointing to be the victim. My bad for staying so long in a position that was not ever going to make me a satisfying living and was bound to keep me at the hand/mouth cycle forever if I let it.
Of course, I wasn’t going to let it. That is what the new endeavor is all about. It is going slowly. Will get to focusing on it here shortly once I have my plan all hammered out. The world has changed a lot since I was last self-employed. There is the likes of the lousy Obamacare to deal with and UI is more of a slave driver than ever about how to do their claims. Learning curve! Lots of opportunities to look at. May do their self-employed option since I am headed that way or may try to go to Analytics school and use that program as well.
Let the games begin!

This old song really illustrates my mood. 🙂
