2020.03 Walking…not leaping yet
8″ With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.” Acts 3:8
In the story where a man lame from birth is begging near the temple and he encounters the disciples of Jesus, Peter and John tell him they have no silver or gold but in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to rise up and walk and as he does, he is walking and leaping and praising God. If that isn’t a picture of joy overflowing, I don’t know what is!
Since being laid up with a broken leg and pretty darn sprained ankle I have a new empathy for those who are disabled. I went to see the doctor on Wednesday who told me I could start transitioning to a sneaker. Really? Yup! So, I started slowly, first keeping the dreaded boot and losing one crutch and when I started feeling confident enough to walk around without even that, it was time to sneak up on the sneaker. Oh my! What a wonderment! Even just to be able to ditch the office chair and walk with just a crutch and the boot was delightful! I feel like I gained a slight taste of the amazing joy this lame man must have experienced.
It’s been four days now and I’m now crutch free 90% of the time. While there is no PT yet, I do keep my foot up when I am not hobbling about. He has me drawing the alphabet with my foot. Right now it is conducting music to Chopin that is playing whilst I write. Went shopping and bought a new ankle brace that is more of a stabilizer that I can wear with my shoe and bought new sneakers too that will slip on. Now I’m stylin’ and actually walking.
It’s been a weekend of getting caught up on the backlog of life like laundry, cleaning and making war on the ants that seem to have taken over since I haven’t been attending to their need for poison to take back to their nest. Not there yet, but made a great dent in everything. Yayyy!
Walking, not leaping, but praising God today,
Kiki
